2026-2027 tuition & policies

Newburyport Montessori School offers programs for children ages 8 weeks to 6 years old.  Depending on the program, children may attend NMS for a minimum of 2 half days per week to 5 full days per week.  Additionally, we offer both before and after care to support the needs of families within our Montessori community.

The below fee schedules reflect the monthly tuition for the Nido, and the school year tuition for Toddler House and Children’s House. Our school year for all programs is September-June, except for the Nido program which is a year round program. The NMS Summer Sessions program for Toddler & Children’s House is a separate program and fee from the school year tuition. Please visit our Summer Sessions at NMS program page for more details and fees.

  • A $60 processing fee is due for new students applying to the school.  If the processing fee was not submitted with your child’s application, it will be added to your first tuition bill. The Processing Fee is non-refundable and is not applied toward tuition.

  • To simplify enrollment for our families and administration, students are continuously enrolled at Newburyport Montessori School (NMS) from the time of admission until one of the following conditions is met: completion of our Kinder House Program, turning 6 years old before the start of the next school year, or choosing to opt out of enrollment.

Each year, enrolled families will be asked to complete an Enrollment Review Form. This is an opportunity for families to select one of the following enrollment options for the next school year:

    • Proceed with no changes to your child’s program schedule.

    • Change the program schedule by selecting one of the options provided.

    • OPT-OUT of continued enrollment.

  • Toddler House, Children’s House, and Kinder House Programs:

All tuition and fees will be processed through Playground’s billing portal. Enrollment is mandatory.  Playground does not charge an activation or annual maintenance fee.

NMS offers a 10-month payment plan for tuition. The first installment is due June 15, 2026, and the final installment is due March 15, 2027. If an Enrollment Agreement is processed after the start of our billing period, the first tuition payment will include arrears.

Tuition must be paid in full by March 2027 unless NMS has agreed to an amended payment schedule.

Playground’s processing fees are as follows:

    • Credit or debit card: 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction

    • ACH (direct transfer from your checking account): $1 per transaction

    Deposit:

    • New & Returning Toddler & Children’s House students = $500 deposit

    • Returning & new Kinder House students = $1,000 deposit

    •  Deposits are applied to your child’s annual tuition and are non-refundable.

    Nido Program:

    Tuition:

Tuition will be billed monthly. Monthly payments will begin in the month prior to the infant’s start date.

    Deposit:

A deposit equal to two months of tuition will be required at enrollment. The deposit will be credited to the last two months that your child is in the Nido.

  • Student fees include an activity fee and a materials fee.

    Activity Fee

The activity fee is an annual, per-student fee that is used for enrichment programs such as music and Spanish, field trips, special events, yearbooks, and performances during the school year. The annual fee per child is $300 and will be included on your first tuition bill.

    Materials Fee

The materials fee is an annual, per-student fee that is applied to purchase and maintain consumable materials for your child’s Montessori environment. The annual fee per child is $200.00 and will be included on your first tuition bill. An additional $75.00 material fee is required for children in Kinder House.

    Failed or Late Payment Fees

Late or failed payments will incur a $20 Fee, which will be billed directly to your Playground account.

  • Before-care is offered from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m., and After-care from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. each day. Before-care students must be dropped off no later than 8:30 am. Childcare is billed every two weeks at the rate of $17.00 per hour, and is prorated to the nearest 1/2 hour. If you sign up for child care and do not use it, you will not be charged.

Information about signing up for childcare will be provided under separate cover.

  • You may request to add a morning, afternoon, or full-day session to your child's schedule on an as-needed basis. If space allows, your request will be approved. The drop-in rate for a morning session (9 AM - Noon) or afternoon session (Noon – 3:00 PM) is $65, and the full-day (9 AM - 3 PM) rate is $130. Additional sessions will be billed monthly to your tuition management account upon approval of your request. The Playground App has a “Book Drop-in care” button for requesting extra sessions.

  • We allow a 5-minute grace period for pick-up at the end of the morning and afternoon sessions. If a child is picked up after 12:05 PM for the morning session or 1:05 PM, the following late fees will apply:

    • 1-5 minutes late = $5

    • 6-10 minutes late = $10

    • Etc.

If a child enrolled in the afternoon program is picked up after 3:05 PM, you will be charged the standard childcare rate. If a child is picked up from aftercare after 5:00 PM, the following late fees will apply:

    • 1-5 minutes late = $15

    • 6-10 minutes late = $30

    • Etc.

Late fees will be billed to your tuition management account and given directly to the staff member who stayed past their scheduled hours.

  • NMS does not refund tuition or offer make-up days for absences, including, but not limited to, absences due to illness, family vacations, and appointments.

  • Until June 1st, there is no penalty for changing your child’s program schedule for the upcoming school year.

After June 1, there will be no reduction in tuition for program changes that reduce your child’s schedule, and the financially responsible parent or guardian is liable for the full year's tuition. For program changes that increase a student’s schedule, tuition will be adjusted accordingly. Program changes will incur a $25 change fee.

  • Our commitments for salaries, rent, and maintenance are annual, and tuition is our sole source of income. A student's unexpected withdrawal or extended absence does not reduce operating costs. As such, it is essential to be aware of the following dates and financial obligations.

    • Between December 15, 2025 and May 31, 2026
If you choose to withdraw your child, the non-refundable Enrollment Deposit will be forfeited. However, you will NOT be contractually obligated to pay tuition and fees.

    • Between June 1, 2026 and August 31, 2026
If you choose to withdraw your child, the non-refundable Enrollment Deposit will be forfeited. Additionally, the financially responsible parent or guardian will be contractually obligated to pay tuition equal to two installments of the ten-installment billing plan for the contracted program and schedule for the upcoming school year.

    • After August 31, 2026
If you choose to withdraw your child, the financially responsible parent or guardian is contractually obligated to pay the full annual tuition for the contracted program and schedule for the upcoming school year.

    Withdrawal- Unique Circumstances

Newburyport Montessori School recognizes that a family may have a change in plans beyond their control. If there are unique circumstances that warrant a family's withdrawal, the Head of School will determine whether to grant an exemption from financial obligations.

Unique circumstances include, but may not be limited to the following:

    1. Relocation 20+ miles away from Newburyport Montessori School; documentation of new address and job transfer is required.

    2. Withdrawal at the request of Newburyport Montessori School.

    3. A physician’s written determination that a student’s medical condition precludes the student from attending the school.

    4. The financially responsible party becomes unemployed.

    5. Death of a student’s parent or court-appointed legal guardian.

    Dismissal Initiated by NMS

NMS strives to meet the needs of every child. If it is determined that a child needs additional classroom support as a condition of continued enrollment, parents are expected to cover the costs of those resources.

When interventions have been exhausted, NMS will determine whether it is in the best interests of all parties involved for a child to leave the program. Reasons for NMS dismissing a student include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Disruptive Behavior

    • Failure to Follow Instructions

    • Aggressive or Harmful Behavior

    • The program is unable to meet the needs of the child

If NMS dismisses a child, unpaid tuition for the portion of the school year not attended will be forgiven.

Please refer to our Family Handbook for a more detailed explanation of the circumstances under which a child may be asked to leave NMS. The Family Handbook is located in Playground under Paperwork/Resources.

  • We are not in a position to offer financial aid for the 2026-2027 school year.
