Welcome Letter from the Head of School | NMS Programs
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your interest in our school. It is our belief that children benefit most when family and school share common goals and expectations for learning.
We have four Children’s House classrooms (ages 2 year 9 months – 6 years old) that meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, one Four Morning classroom for students attending four days a week Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon, and a Transition Program for older toddlers that meets Monday – Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon.
Each year the number of available openings is limited, and we encourage parents to indicate a second choice on their Application. We accept Applications throughout the year and begin to make admissions decisions in late January. We survey current parents to find out what program they prefer and then fill the openings with new applicants. Occasionally, we need to place children on our waiting list, but find that through the Spring and Summer, openings do become available for children on that list.
In addition to our morning programs, we also offer afternoon programs from noon to 3:00 p.m. Children bring their own lunch, rest and spend time in a classroom, outside or in our Activity Room.
There are children who complete their Kindergarten year in our Five Morning classes. We also offer an Extended Day program for Kindergarten aged children. You may choose three or five afternoons in addition to five mornings. The Extended Day Program offers children an opportunity to continue their work with Montessori materials and further develop the skills they have been working on during their morning classes.
We are affiliated with Inn Street Montessori School, an Elementary School for children six to twelve years old. Located at 52 Inn Street, the Inn Street Montessori School grew out of the Newburyport Montessori School because of parents’ strong interest in continuing their children’s Montessori education. If you would like information about Inn Street Montessori, please email us at elease@innstreet.org.
We invite you to call and set up an appointment to visit our school. For your first visit, we request that you come without your child so that you may view a short video introducing you to Dr. Maria Montessori’s educational philosophy and then observe a typical class in session. If, after having observed our students and teachers for a portion of the day, you are interested in pursuing your child’s education at our school, we will schedule a time for you and your child to visit together.
We look forward to meeting you and your child.
Sincerely,

Maureen Daley
Head of School
