History of the NMS PA:
Founded in 2006, the NMS PA’s primary goal is to get parents involved in the classroom and at school because greater parent involvement benefits both our children and the school.
To achieve our goal in our first three years, the PA members accomplished the following:
- Established room representatives in each classroom to facilitate communication
- Created a new edition of the NMS cookbook, sharing recipes and history from our school’s families
- Organized the school’s library to modernize it and make it more accessible to our children
- Established the Parent Lending Library
- Expanded the school newsletter to share information on activities, profile individuals throughout our school and provide information on upcoming events
- Created and nurtured the Frances Stevens Memorial Garden to honor a long-time NMS teacher and to beautify our school
- Celebrated NMS’ 35th Anniversary in 2007 with a school-wide birthday party to foster a sense of community
- Recognized the 100th Anniversary of Maria Montessori’s contribution to worldwide education, (1907 – 2207)
- Coordinated and executed school wide social events, (I am a Scientist in 2007 and I am an Artist in 2008), which incorporated enjoyment with learning

Future of the NMS PA:
In our fourth year, the NMS PA plans to build on last year’s successes by:
- Hosting a social for new parents after the new parent orientation on September 3rd to answer questions and welcome the new parents to our school
- Expanding our involvement in upkeep of the gardens around NMS to surround our children and our community with beautiful nature
- Involving parents in the maintenance of the library to ensure continued benefit to our children
- Asking room representatives to organize classroom socials to allow parents and teachers to meet and make connections
- Assisting teachers in communicating about volunteering opportunities and events in the classroom
- Providing a school wide social event combining play with learning
